“Christians Living in a Wicked World”
Titus 2:11-15
Introduction:
Titus 1:5, “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you.”
“For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision” (1:10). “One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons” (1:12).
Galatians 1:4, Christ “gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”
“that they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:26).
Titus 2:11-15, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, [12] instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, [13] looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, [14] who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. [15] These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.”
Titus 2:7-8, “In all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, [8] sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.”
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Matthew 16:23, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's.”
I. Consider Your Lifestyle vs. 11-12
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, [12] instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age …”
Matthew 16:24, “[24] Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.””
Colossians 3:2, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
2 Peter 3:11-12, “You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God …”
1 John 4:17, “… as He is, so also are we in this world.”
II. Consider Your Future v. 13
“looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus ...”
“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3).
“fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13)
III. Consider Your Purpose v. 14
“gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”
1 Peter 2:24, “He bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.”
Titus 1:16, “they profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed”
Matthew 7:21-24, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. [22] Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ [23] And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’ [24] Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
1 Peter 2:11-12, “Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. [12] Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
Galatians 1:4, “He gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”
Conclusion:
Titus 2:15, “These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.”
“Faith is the victory that has overcome the world” (1 John 5:4).
