Sunday Sermon Outline: Hosea 6

“Divine Reasoning”
Hosea 6

Introduction: Hosea 5:12, 14; 2 Peter 3:9; Hosea 5:15

I.  The Divine Objective  vs. 1-3
“[6:1]  Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. [2] He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, that we may live before Him. [3] So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; and He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.”

Philippians 3:8

II. Divine Judgments  vs. 4-5
“[4] What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning cloud and like the dew which goes away early. [5] Therefore I have hewn them in pieces by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth; and the judgments on you are like the light that goes forth.”

2 Chronicles 16:9; Psalm 135:14; 1 Samuel 2:9; Matthew 4:4; John 12:48; Revelation 2:16; Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 4:11; 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

III.  Divine Delight  vs. 6-7
“[6] For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, and in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. [7] But like Adam they have transgressed the covenant; there they have dealt treacherously against Me.”

1 Samuel 15:22; Proverbs 21:3; Matthew 9:12-13; Amos 5:21-24; Psalm 51:16-17; Mark 12:33; 1 John 5:20; Jeremiah 9:23-24; Genesis 2:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3; Jeremiah 23:14

IV. Divine Assessment  vs. 8-11
“[8] Gilead is a city of wrongdoers, tracked with bloody footprints. [9] And as raiders wait for a man, so a band of priests murder on the way to Shechem; surely they have committed crime. [10] In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; Ephraim's harlotry is there, Israel has defiled itself. [11] Also, O Judah, there is a harvest appointed for you, when I restore the fortunes of My people.”

Malachi 1:6-7; Colossians 2:8; Leviticus 5:3; 2 Corinthians 6:17-18; Hebrews 12:15; Titus 1:15; Hosea 8:7

Conclusion: Psalm 74:22-23
