Sunday Sermon Outline: Our Common Salvation

Jude 1:1-4
Our Common Salvation

Introduction:
Jude 1:1-4, “Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: 2 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you. 3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”

Matthew 13:55, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?”

I. The Recipients of Truth v. 1
“To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ:”

Revelation 17:14, “those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.”

II. The Rewards of Truth v. 2
“May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.”

John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
Jesus “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:20).
“Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17-19).
Romans 5:5, “the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

II. The Resistance of Truth vs. 3-4
“Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”

“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock” (Acts 20:29).
Colossians 3:2, “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.”
     Revelation 2:12-17
2 Corinthians 11:13-15,  “false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.”
“By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious” (1 John 3:10).
“God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” (Genesis 3:3).
“You surely will not die” (Genesis 3:4).
Romans 6:1-2, “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?”
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
“From now on sin no more” (John 8:11).
“Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame” (1 Corinthians 15:34).

Conclusion:
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17).
“Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called” (1 Timothy 6:12).
